Spring will be here soon...it's at Trellis Marketplace Now!

Promoting women's businesses (men's too) at Mermaids of the Lake Magazine, means going out and seeing the endless creativity and inspiration here in the Inland Northwest.  Sadly, since I was in such a little kid coma for so long, some amazing businesses went right over my radar and are, only now, coming into sight.  On Saturday, my sweet girlie-friend Christy and I made our way to a great shop in Spokane Valley.  This shop's is appropriately named The Trellis Marketplace, as this store was packed with great things for your garden, and even beyond, for the inside of your home.

The Trellis Marketplace has a balanced mixture of new and vintage collections.  It is packed with unique items that give an outdoor living space indoor comforts...for example, check out these fans...

Meet Starla...she is working tirelessly right now, creating amazing, decorative potting/gardening tables.  She also created great little planters with rustic items from the hubby's workshop...(but because I'm sometimes an airhead...I forgot to take pictures of the potted plants in the cool rustic items...so please go check her out!)

But here's some pics I did get...

These are table runners!!  They are SO cute cool!  I came home and showed Grant...reminding him of yet other reason we need a lake house property!!

Mom, I know you'll love these...

Starla makes these Garden Tool Carriers...Love them!!!

Little pieces of vintage items are throughout the store...making it feel like home!!

Look who's on the shelf in the kitchen area...Serena of Farm Chicks!!  That book will flying off the shelf soon!

Starla took us in the back where she is prepping for an amazing Open House April 16th.  She has tons of iron pieces perfect for any size garden...or yard for that matter.

Check her out and tell her that the Ballyhoo Girl sent you!
After all...

Thanks for Visiting!

Old fashioned work is a great treat!

With some ingredients from around the house (with the exception of Rock Salt) we were able to churn out a delicious hand-made, much appreciated summer treat, Vanilla Ice Cream!  We used the newly purchased, vintage ice cream maker and took turns at the crank.  Each of us did our part, and while we did, we talked about what it may have been like for our great-grandparents when they were children.  After working in the sun beating heat on the farm, then returning home only to work even more just to get this cool treat.  Our ice cream maker was without instructions but it was real easy to figure out and a simple recipe was on the box of rock salt.  Here’s what we used to our first batch of Vanilla Ice Cream:

4c. whole milk
1p. cream (whipped or heavy will work)
1c. sugar
¼ tsp. vanilla (I used a dash bit more)
dash of table salt

After you put the ingredients in the inner cylinder you than pack the inside of the outer bucket in ice (crushed works better) and rock salt. We used almost half the box of rock salt because we didn't have any directions but I bet between a cup or 2 cups (max) is all you need. The turning of the crack is a little difficult at first, that's why working with the crushed ice would work better...we didn't have that option. But after a few minutes, Gracie was able to turn it on her own. In fact, it was so easy, even little Zack had no problem. The result shocked us all when it really worked and it tasted better than store-bought and in only 20 minutes! If you have been looking into getting an ice cream maker yourself, I highly recommend the White Mountain Ice Cream Freezer Products.  It is made of traditional solid technology using all-metal gears and hand-crank and the outer bucket is made of solid wood.  Like many other great American companies, White Mountain makes their products in China (grrrrrrr!) but they continue to stand by their products offering a 5-year warranty.

Our little cool churning unit is from around the 1970’s, hopefully she will be helping us produce wonderfully delightful treats for years to come. We’re very excited to try the different recipes/flavors found on the White Mountain Ice Cream Recipes website.  If you have any yummy recipes you would like to share, let me know!
Thank you for following…

Latah Creek Street Market...it was a HOT Deal!!

What a truly HOT day (weekend) for our friends at the Latah Creek Street Market.  The excessive temperatures didn't seem to sizzle (frizzle) their smiles or burn out their spirit.  Because we had such a busy non-working weekend, I wasn't able to get there until later in the afternoon...and lucky for me, there were alot of great finds!!

Here sweetly sat our friend Hollie of Facebook | Funky Junk Antique Show.  She was such a trooper wearing her pink cowgirl hat and pink cowgirl boots...the heat could not sacrifice comfort for fashion for this girl!!  I was so excited about the awesome find from her booth today, a vintage, hand crack ice cream maker.  What was wonderful about the purchase is that I was just the other day, I was gonna order one online and had gotten around to place the order.  What was also wonderful is the money I saved from buying at the antique show...$15 for Funky Junk, versus $170 for online new purchase.  WOW!!

Here's another favorite purchase...meet my new wheelbarrow...his name will be Herb (my portable planter on a wheel) as that is what he will grow starting tomorrow.

Our tireless Queen of Design, Gladys of Junebug shined as bright as the sun.  She just worked at the Vintage Barn Sale yesterday and here she is looking quite panache at the Creek...Bless you girl, your style is beautiful!

And then there are the things I dreadfully left behind...

What an incredible end to a wonderful weekend!  Now it's time to put the kids to work on some of that old-fashioned ice cream!

Happy Trails my Friends!
